Meadow Impressions

I so love this beautiful paper from ScrapandMe, Meadow Impressions, to me it looks like the flowers are kind of like the Purslane (in the Portulaca family) or Moss Rose, which I love! after all I live in Florida, and our flowers must be very hardy to endure July and August! I am sad that I cannot obtain (or at least have not found a vendor for) the type of stamens that I see in my European friends paper flowers, but I do my best with what I have (if any of you have info, please leave me a note!!).

This card is actually an apology card, not a sympathy card, and I didn’t really know how to do the sentiment on the front, so what you see is what you get!

The flowers are made from fomiron, which I’m finally getting used to using, you have to be very careful not to overheat the fomiron, or it will not only curl your petals, but may actually burn your fingers!! I sometimes will cover part of the petal and only curl one side, then come back to it, cover the curled edge with my finger, and reverse curl the other side, hoping to have it look more natural – but I think I might need some really thick gloves to protect myself!

The card base was cut from a Heartfelt Creations die (Gateway Arches) using 110 lb weight paper – much too thick, in my opinion, but I bought the paper, and I will finish using it – but only for square and rectangle bases, I suppose, as it was too too thick to run through my Sizzix machine, and actually kind of curved or bent, the die! I do enjoy heavy paper for making flowers (and HFC has some lovely paper specifically for this purpose) but it is just too thick for most of the things I do.

I have a couple of pearl sprays (Wedding dept at craft store) to add some dimension, and on the inside, I have a cutout placed on a die cut doily.

Thanks so much for stopping by! And please leave me a message, especially if you know where I can purchase cool stamens!

Best Wishes Card in Blue

My 2nd or 3rd card from Scrapandme’s lovely Sapphire Days. To be fair, this is modeled after one that Monika Jakubowska did several weeks ago – she used different paper, and colors, but I do have to give her credit for the design.

Once again, using many of my flower (and card) dies from Heartfelt Creations, the light periwinkle blue are made out of Fomiron, but the dark navy blue, and white blossom, are paper.

I did fussy cut the little design inside the card, as well as the sentiment from the paper pack.

Thank you so much for stopping by, and Best Wishes!!

Mother’s (purple) Birthday Card

My mom is in love with the color purple – she has a dark, eggplant purple on her front door (really!) lavender in her bedroom, and touches of it all over her house. With all the lovely purple themed paper from ScrapandMe, I thought I should pair one of their paper collections with a purple rose for her card!

I had a lot of fun crafting the rose – even went on-line to find how to do a ombre coloring for a purple rose, and used some “Cactus Flower” ink (using a light touch) for the centers, and gently inked the edges of the petal with actual purple, then I used a blending sponge to blur the colors together.

I love the bling, found at a local craft store, on the left hand side of the card, very eye catching! Inside the card is a cut out, perfect for a note!

Thank you so much for stopping by!!

Purple Springtime

One of my newest makes – for a little contest with the Scrapandme paper company (in Poland) – I haven’t been able to obtain the Purple Spring yet, so I had to use their Meadow Impressions – it’s still beautiful!

I’ve developed a new way (for me) of making rose buds, which results in a fat little bud and even works with Fomiron, as seen here. Not that I’m overly pleased with myself or anything, just wanted to share! I also created some dark purple Purselane- at least that is what I was going for! and mini Calla Lilies are tucked in there. I used Rajni Chowlas Crystal Clear sprinkles on one of the butterflies- fussy cut from the paper pack.

Thanks for looking!

Happy Mother’s Day (Polish Calendar)

In Poland, Mothers Day is celebrated May 26th. I know this because I have become an aficionado of a Polish based Scrapbook paper company called Scrapandme, and they are currently having a challenge for Mother’s Day cards, for which I am submitting this card.

This is a fun fold that I just recently discovered that they call a Tri-fold Shutter Card. I used Scrapandme’s Aquarelles paper (only one page, and there was extra), and some handmade fomiron flowers. And a tiny little bit of gold string, as it seemed a bit much to add a ribbon or lace.

This card measured 7”x4” when closed as shown, and measures 7”x12” when open flat. To create your own, cut your paper from a 12”x12” square – you can use any color as your base, and score down from the 12” long side, at 2”, 4”, 8”, and 10”. Then turn the paper 90°, and carefully cut along each side, 1-1/2” from the edge, from the first score line down to the last (start at 2” and cut down to 10”). Then making mountain and valley folds you will create the shutter effect. (There is a lovely tutorial or two on YouTube if you need a visual on how to fold.)

Once you have your base, then you select your paper, and mat it, and then finally you can decorate. One little trick I have is placing some white cardstock on the back so that the two shutters which have been scored, which we really want to lie flat, are stiffer.

Right at the pencil tip, you can see the extra piece I placed to stiffen up that part of the card. That purple square on the back is for a personal message.

Here you see the card open and shut. Hope you enjoyed this mini tutorial – the making of this card was rather fun, and frankly, if you want to just fussy cut floral arrangements, instead of using dimensional flowers as I am wont to do, you could easily slip this in an envelope for mailing. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Priceless Friendship card

This lovely uses Scrapandme Sapphire Days paper, it is about 4-1/2” x 7-1/2”. The flowers are (Heartfelt Creations dies) cut out of fomiron, and the fern are actually thin little woodcuts, which I found from Little Birdie Crafts – they are primed when you receive them, and I just daubed them with a little ink.

This is the inside of my card. I used the same sheet of paper that I had on the front, and just fussy cut he flowers out, and turned them lengthwise. Every time I do fussy cutting I marvel at people who claim to love it – what I love is die cutting! And electric die cutting machines like my Vagabond II, are the bomb!

Teaching myself how to heat the fomiron so that it does what I want it to, without burning me little fingers has quite a learning curve! I’m waiting with baited breath for some colored fomiron to come in the mail….it just adds such a nice, soft touch, but it is a little bit fiddly!

For the sentiments, I cheated and found a sticker pack from Hobby Lobby – I actually have about 5 of them – some are religious, some family oriented, some friendship – and their handwriting is much neater than mine!

Thank you so much for stopping by, and please give me. Humans up, or a note, if you like my work!

Cheerful Daisies Greeting Card

This is another card made from Scrapandme’s “Aquarelles” paper. I’ll have to admit, I was surprised when I saw this and another sheet, as for some reason I thought the “aqua” in “Aquarelles” meant the papers would be, well, aqua. Doesn’t matter! I love the artistry, and love finding new paper products to play with!

This is also a Shaker Card, and hopefully you can see the little gold stars in the shaker box. I have a little wreath die that works nicely to place over the cardstock used for the shaker element, which led me towards the green base paper in the background there.

I had a lot of fun, for a change, making this shaker card! I’m got the kit from a place called Creative Embellishments, on-line, of course – it’s a craft store that is in New York – I just went searching for shaker card kits, and they popped up! They have a LOT of variety as far as shaker kits goes, and the kit is totally worth the couple of $$ you spend on them – the worst part is waiting on snail mail, for them to arrive!

This is going to be entered in the Challenge #92 – for Mom, by Scrapandme papers, especially because whenever I look at daisies, I think of my mom, I remember her often saying how much she loves daisies – perhaps not as much as she loves Plumeria (growing live in Hawaii), but still.

Thanks for stopping by, and please say hello!

All the Best – Sapphire Days

I love this lovely blue paper from Scrapandme papers! Personally, in retrospect, I should have made the flowers a bit more pale, but they are close to the same shade.

I almost always use flower stamps and dies from Heartfelt Creations, and these are called the Sweet Magnolia. The arched gateway die is one of my favorite shapes for cards. I used the edge from one of the papers for the middle part, and tucked the magnolias around the corner. Don’t you love the fancy stamens? I think they call them “rock candy” stamens.

The inside panel uses a paper from another Scrapandme collection (Aquarelles), and a cut-out from the Sapphire Days paper, using a very old “Creative Memories” circle cutter. There is plenty of room to write a sweet Mothers Day message below.

I really am loving these beautiful papers from Poland, and (again) am just so excited to have found a shop in the US that carries them! I am entering this in the Challenge # 92 – For Mom, from the Scrapandme blog.

Thanks for stopping by!

Lilies and Lace v.2

Well I am hooked on the idea of Lilies and Lace! Actually, I’m just hooked on these Scrapandme papers I’ve discovered!! This lovely card is also from the “Aquarelles” collection.

To make this card, I used the largest die from the Heartfelt Creations Teardrop Lattice Gateway dies, to make the shaped card. Then I cut the front panel with the same die, adhered it in place, cut the teardrop lattice gateway, and adhered it on top of the Scrapandme decorative paper. The inside panel was cut using the largest of the Heartfelt Creations Scalloped border gateway die for the right hand side, and for the left hand side, I cut this image first using my old Creative Memories circle cutter, and then used the largest scalloped circle die from inside Heartfelt Creations Decorative Circle Frames die set, to place behind the patterned paper – although both pieces came from the same paper pack as everything else.

On the front of the card, I took some fabric lace and glued it down, and then placed a ribbon in the center as shown – and I clamped it for quite a while before going back to decorate with the flowers, to make sure it had dried. In fact I made all my flowers after I glued the lace and ribbon down.

For the lilies, I actually used the HFC Daffodil, and narrowed the petals a smidgen, and then put in the lovely sparkly stem you see there – I did roll the wire of the stamen in some matching ink. The daffodil, again, was made from the same set. The small blossom were cut from the smallest Classic rose dies, and I just cupped the flowers, and glued in the stamens. The ferns are from a “no name” set, and I used the HFC Dahlia large leaves to tuck under the lilies.

I think even the “Thank you” sentiment came from HFC, probably the Butterfly Dreams set – its in the one with the lacy square, and small doily, as well as the Single smaller butterfly. I’m not sure this set is available anymore, but I find lots of great sentiments for die cutting from Creative Expressions on-line at various shops – Heartfelt Creations and Graphic 45 often have sentiments in their collections as well, whether stamps, or die cuts.

And that will finish your card! I do love creating these cards, but even more, I enjoy giving them to people. Mothers Day is coming up, and I have over 50, which I will be taking over on the Saturday before, so the nurses can sign and deliver them. Wouldn’t it be great it I could make 75 next year?……that’s a lot of crafting!!

Well, thanks for stopping by, and please leave me some feedback, and share my blog to others who might be interested!

Lilies and Lace

The theme at “A Place to Start” for May is Lilies and Lace. I love the beautiful artwork on Scrapandme papers! I had thought I would never get to use them, since they seem to be based in Poland, but got lucky, and found a shop in S.Carolina (Crafty City) that had a few of their collections. So this is my very first Scrapandme Card!

This card uses the Aquarelles paper collection, and of course, my favorite flower die company Heartfelt Creations for my hand crafted lilies and blossom. I sort of cheated, and used the dies for the daffodil, narrowed the petals a bit, and then used the leaves from the dahlia collection. (The fern leaves are from an unknown designer.)

I just love stamens that I used for the centers, don’t you? I had to hand die the purple ones, I had completely run out, but the ones I had were very pastel anyway, so (believe it or not!) I used the teal ones, and died them to purple you see here. The lace is from my stash, and I literally have only about six inches left of it!!

The inside was cut from the paper pack as well as the sentiment, using an old oval cutting device I have had for years made by Creative Memories.

Thanks for stopping by, and please leave me some feedback!!
